MY STORY

headshot4.jpg

I have known I wanted to be a midwife since I shadowed a Certified Nurse Midwife on “Take Your Daughter to Work Day” in 6th grade. For me, it is a calling as much as it is a profession. I feel honored to serve and care for women and their families.

I was born and raised in Arlington, Virginia and am happy to establish Arlington Midwifery in the community I love.  I graduated from George Mason University in 2000 with a Bachelor’s of Nursing. I worked as a Registered Nurse in Public Health and on Labor and Delivery, which confirmed my childhood dream of becoming a midwife.  I received my Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of Utah in 2008 and began practicing as a Certified Nurse Midwife at the Family Health and Birth Center (FHBC) in Northeast D.C., caring for women in the out-of-hospital setting. I then spent a year at Washington Hospital Center where I cared for women of all ages, with a special emphasis on the teen population as part of the Teen Alliance for Prepared Parenting (TAPP) program. While at Washington Hospital Center I worked to establish the CenteringPregnancy model of group prenatal care.

I then moved to George Washington University Hospital as part of the midwifery service and served women and families there for four years.  While at GWU I was part of the team of midwives and physicians who began offering vaginal breech births in the hospital setting. With the opening of Arlington Midwifery, I bring all the skills and knowledge I have gained over the past 10 years to the home setting, where my heart has always been.

I live in Arlington, Virginia with my husband and our three beautiful children, all of whom were born in our home.
